PNS 7: speech

GETTYSBURG, Penn.-On the hot, dewy day of Nov. 19, over 1,500 people gathered to hear President Abraham Lincoln gave a noble speech about the battle of Gettysburg. Lincoln declared that part of the battlefield will serve as a memorial for the 7,500 soldiers lost in the battle. "We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this." Lincoln said.

With our nation in a state of war, it was obvious that a main goal of this speech was to motivate the people of this great country. Lincoln stated: "the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain-"
Many were intrigued by this address and it may be just what America needs to get us through this war. We are fighting for many honorable causes and it is comforting to know that we have a leader who can carry us through.

Lincoln ended his speech by saying: "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. "

Good job! I like how you incorporated quotes into the story. One thing that probably won't be a problem when you do a recent speech story, but you made it sound more like a 'historic speech'(which, I know it was) than something that had just happened.

Oooo...Nice! Your start was good. Pretty much got it all for a good lead. I tried to end my the same as yours, but i found it hard to make it flow good...you?

Your story had a great hook at the beginning! The descriptive words really caught my attention and this story flowed very well! great job!
